Hadith relating to drinking camel’s urine

While I was chatting online, I asked a Hindu to justify that why they consider Cow urine as sacred and drink it. To my surprise he asked me to justify that Prophet Muhammad asked a group of Muslims to drink camel’s urine and posted the following Hadith:
Narrated Anas: Some people from the tribe of ‘Ukl came to the Prophet and embraced Islam. The climate of Medina did not suit them, so the Prophet ordered them to go to the (herd of milch) camels of charity and to drink, their milk and urine (as a medicine). They did so, and after they had recovered from their ailment (became healthy) they turned renegades (reverted from Islam) and killed the shepherd of the camels and took the camels away. The Prophet sent (some people) in their pursuit and so they were (caught and) brought, and the Prophets ordered that their hands and legs should be cut off and that their eyes should be branded with heated pieces of iron, and that their cut hands and legs should not be cauterized, till they die. Sahih Al-Bukhari Vol. 8, Bk. 82, No. 794.
I would be very grateful to you if could kindly explain that if Muslims are allowed to drink Camels Urine so why we Muslim question and make fun of Hindus for their practice of drinking cow urine.

Answer

My answer is that I don’t know whether it actually happened or not. Hadith doesn’t give a certain information. It can be a wrong report or a misunderstanding from someone who reported it. My faith in the prophet is based on the Quran. I read it and was convinced that it was from God and therefore the bringer of it is God’s messenger. I also know that the prophet had many enemies who could sometimes concoct stories to tarnish his image. I don’t find myself responsible for what has been mentioned in the hadith. My religion is based on Quran and sunnah. Hadith is a secondary source that can be rejected or accepted on the basis of whether it is consistent with Quran, sunnah, and common sense.
