Is it permitted to do ablution (wudu) in standing position for instance with wash basin. I noticed this in office where people do wudu in standing position at wash basin.

There is no problem in doing wudu in standing position with wash basin. The Quran mentions the parts of the body that need to be cleaned in wudu:
“O believers! When you set forth for prayers, wash your faces and your hands as far as the elbows, wipe your heads and wash your feet to the ankles.”
These requirements need to be gone through, whether we do them while standing or sitting is besides the point. Such matters have to do with the situation a person is in and the kind of facilities that are available to him. The manner certain things are done can vary from society to society. For instance, there used to be a time when taking a bath (ghusl) would involve bucket and a jug. Now we normally take a shower to achieve the same purpose. The idea in both cases should be to get the entire body washed with water. Likewise in case of wudu.
